Comunicado del pueblo U'wa sobre el hallazgo de petróleo en Kera Chikara : Indymedia Colombia

El día 03 de Marzo de 2003 el Cabildo Mayor U´wa, Autoridades Tradicionales de las 17 Comunidades Indígenas, Lideres y Pueblo en General recibe de manera Oficial de parte de los medios de Comunicación Nacional y del Presidente de ECOPETROL ISAAC YANOVICH el hallazgo de petróleo en Gibraltar 1 del Bloque Samoré frente a esta situación el Pueblo U´wa a través del Cabildo Mayor hace conocer a la Opinión Pública NACIONAL E INTERNACIONAL su posición.

Teniendo en cuenta que el pueblo U´wa Viene sufriendo los atropellos, engaños y burlas del gobierno Nacional y de empresas transnacionales desde el 11 de enero de 1995 cuando la OXY informa de manera Oficial sobre sus intenciones de Explorar y Explotar el Hidrocarburo en nuestro territorio, el Pueblo U´wa conformado por el Cabildo Mayor, Autoridades Tradicionales, Cabildos Menores, Profesores, Promotores, Líderes, Niños, Ancianos, y Mujeres toman la posición de no permitir la Explotación de petróleo en nuestro territorio por situaciones que ya es de conocimiento Nacional y Mundial. Hoy 04 de Marzo de 2003 nos vemos avocados a recordarles ECOPETROL , el Gobierno Nacional, a la Occidental de Petróleos y al mundo entero que nunca daremos un paso atrás en nuestra posición porque los U´WA jamás iremos a negociar y vender a nuestra madre tierra, la Naturaleza, Medio Ambiente Sano, Nuestra Cultura, Nuestra Historia, y Nuestra Leyes Mayores ya que para nosotros todo ello no se compra ni se vende y nos representa el derecho a la vida y eso esta por encima de cualquier derecho ya sea económico, social o político.

Por lo anterior Hoy 04 de Marzo de 2003 dejamos claro que ECOPETROL y el Gobierno Nacional y la OXY son y serán los directos responsable de la Destrucción, desaparición forzada y gradual de una historia y cultura que hacen parte de un pueblo milenario que lo único que exigimos es nuestro territorio Sano, de Paz y tranquilidad para poder vivir en armonía con la Naturaleza y así cumplir la Ley que Dios Sira nos dejó.

Si el Estado colombiano junto con ECOPETROL continua con este proyecto deberán responder al pueblo colombiano y al mundo entero sobre los desastres naturales y ecológicos que este genere, además será responsable del incremento de la violencia y desequilibrio social y cultural que ello represente.

COMMUNIQUÉ TO THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY IN RESPONSE TO THE DISCOVERY OF PETROLEUM IN OUR ANCESTRAL TERRITORY KERA CHIKARA

On March 3, 2003 the highest U’wa Council of the Traditional Authorities of 17 indigenous U’wa communities, leaders, and general public received official word from the President of Ecopetrol, Isaac Yanovich, regarding the discovery of petroleum in Gibralter I of the Samoré block. The U’wa community, by way of our highest council, would like to make their position known.

The U’wa have suffered abuse, and been deceived and mocked by the national government and multinational companies since Jan. 11, 1995 when OXY informed us of their intention to explore and exploit the hydrocarbons in our territory. The U’wa, in accordance with our Traditional Authorities, high councils, professors, organizers, leaders, elders, and women, have taken the position of not permitting exploitation of petroleum in our territories for reasons well known in the nation and the world.

Today, March 4, 2003, we are here to remind Ecopetrol, the national government, Occidental Petroleum, and the world, that we will never change our position. The U’wa will never negotiate or sell our mother earth, nature, the environment, our culture, our history, and our higher laws. For the U’wa, all of this is not to be sold. It represents our right to live, which takes preference over any right, be that economic, social, or political.

The events of March 4, 2003 leaves it clear that Ecopetrol, the national government, and OXY have been and continue to be directly responsible for the destruction, and gradual and forced disappearance of our history and culture that is part of our ancestral heritage as a people. All we are demanding is our healthy territory, peace, and tranquility in order to live in harmony with nature and in this way follow the laws our God Sira gave us.

If the Colombian government together with Ecopetrol continues with this project, they will have to respond to the Colombian people and the world regarding the natural and ecological disasters this project is generating. Moreover, they will be responsible for the increase of violence and social and cultural imbalance that it represents.

Communities with principles have no price.
